what gospel?

There is a clear call to preach a clear gospel. It is a message of forgiveness of sin through the death and resurrection of Jesus

The gospel is wonderful news of God's mercy and grace towards us in Jesus. Through his death on the cross for our wickedness and his resurrection on the third day we can find forgiveness of sin and come to know Jesus (God) personally. This happens when we turn to Him in repentance, trusting Him alone. He then gives us His gift of eternal life - knowing Him. We receive this eternal life by faith alone and not by our effort or moral life.

The gospel is a message that has a specific content. We must ensure that we do not minimize or water down the content, urgency or passion of this message. It is a message that is considered foolish by those who are lost. (We must not make it sound clever.) Yet to us who are saved it is the power of God.

Because this message is a message of the forgiveness of sin it is unpopular and often considered offensive. It is a message that tells people they are wrong and are in great need of mercy. It is a message that can bring us problems when people reject or persecute us because of it. This was something that Jesus promised - rejection and persecution.

God reminds us of the message Paul preached and had him write it down for us in 1Cor 15:1-4.
